What accessibility standards do we follow?
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA criteria across all pages on wochenfokus.de. These guidelines are the internationally recognised benchmark for digital accessibility, covering perception, operability, understanding and robustness.
Our editorial and technical teams regularly review the site against these standards. We also consult external accessibility experts during major redesigns and when introducing new features. Compliance is an ongoing process, not a one‑off target.
How do we ensure keyboard navigation and focus?
All interactive elements on Wochenfokus can be operated using a keyboard alone. We provide visible focus indicators – typically a clear outline or colour change – so you always know which element is active as you tab through the page.
We test navigation flows with standard keyboard commands (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Escape and arrow keys) to confirm that no content is trapped in a loop or unreachable. Logical tab order follows the visual layout. If you encounter a keyboard trap or missing focus state, please report it to our accessibility team.
What about contrast and reduced motion?
Text and non‑text content on Wochenfokus meet the minimum contrast ratios required by WCAG 2.2 Level AA: at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and graphical objects. We avoid relying solely on colour to convey information.
For users who prefer reduced motion, we respect the operating‑system setting prefers-reduced-motion. Animated elements – such as image carousels or loading indicators – are either removed or replaced with static alternatives when this preference is detected. We do not use auto‑playing video or flashing effects that could trigger seizures.
What you can expect from us
We treat accessibility as a core editorial and technical responsibility, not an afterthought. Every article is written and presented with clarity in mind: headings follow a logical hierarchy, links are descriptive, and images carry meaningful alt text where needed.
Our fact‑checking and editorial processes – overseen by Chefredaktör Oliver Böhm and Redaktionschef Anna Heinrich – include checks for accessible formatting. Sponsored content and affiliate links are clearly labelled, and commercial relationships never affect editorial judgement. The same transparency extends to our use of AI‑assisted tools, which are always reviewed by a human editor before publication.
What are known limitations?
Some older PDF documents linked from our archive may not be fully screen‑reader compatible. We are gradually replacing them with accessible HTML versions or providing alternative text summaries.
Third‑party embedded content – such as social‑media posts, maps or videos – may not always meet our accessibility standards. Where possible we offer a text‑based alternative or a direct link to the original service. Live comment sections and reader polls are designed with basic keyboard and screen‑reader support, but we acknowledge they can be less predictable than our own editorial pages.
How can you report accessibility issues or request help?
If you find any part of our site difficult to use, or if you need content in an alternative format (for example, a plain‑text version of an article or a transcript of an audio file), please email accessibility@wochenfokus.de. We aim to acknowledge your message within two working days and provide a substantive update within five working days.
